Mema

My grandmother, otherwise known to her grandchildren and great grandchildren as Mema, died last night. She was in her eighties. She had had declining health over the last few years, and increasingly so in the last month or so.

She was my dad's mom. I remember growing up and spending time at her house...she always had treats and snacks we didn't often have at home. I would spend weekends at her house--we'd rent movies and eat junk food. She even bought us school clothes one year. We often spent Thanksgiving and Christmas at her house.....my mom and she would stay up to cook, then we'd just kind of veg the rest of the day. I got married in her house.

We'll be leaving Friday morning to go to Texas, the services are on Saturday, we'll go to church Sunday and then leave for home.

Vacation 2008

We went to east TN for vacation....camped at Tellico Plains. It was beautiful, beautiful country. Amazing....we'll be going again.

Nina and Christopher in the river near one of the picnic areas at the Great Smokey Mountains.

This was the sunset after the storm our first night there.

This was one of the many sunsets we saw.....gorgeous!

It's not very clear...we were in the van, but you can see the mists coming off the mountain.

This is Bald River Falls.....in the Cherokee National Forest. I could have stayed there all day.

Cades Cove in the Smokey Mountains....we saw lots of deer like this one, and we also saw a couple of wild turkeys.

Coker Creek....Chris, my Dad, Nina and Christopher went panning for gold in this creek....no luck, but it was fun to do. Kraig, my Mom and I just stood in the water at the entrance and watched. We didn't stay long--it started to rain.

Our first night there, it stormed for about an hour and a half. Afterwards, there was a double rainbow. The outer one is faint, but it's there.

Chris and Nina fishing in the Tellico River.

We had a great time. The KOA where we camped was nice.....had a pool, where we spent a good bit of time to offset the heat. It got quite hot during the day, but the minute the sun went down, it was quite chilly. It never even occurred to us to bring jackets or long sleeves...the mornings were quite cool.
